What a contrast – the person sitting at the table gets this nice cake on a doilie plate, while the pantry man back there with the stubby hands is saying, ‘Damn Deez Doilies!’ So that was the difference between the real world and what it looked like.
So I found hypnosis to be a very interesting experience. All the time you’re saying to yourself, “I could do that, but I won’t” – which is just another way of saying that you can’t.

The other students in the class interrupt me: ‘We know all that!’ “Oh,” I say, “you do? No wonder I can catch up with you so fast after you’ve all had four years of biology.” They had wasted all their time memorizing stuff like that when it could be looked up in 15 minutes.
You have no responsibility to live up to what other people think you ought to accomplish
I’ll never make that mistake again, reading experts opinions. Of course, you only live one life, and you make all your mistakes, and learn what not to do, and that’s the end of you.
The easiest way to explain this idea is to contrast it, for example, with advertising. Last night I heard that Wesson oil doesn’t soak through food. Well, thats true. Its not dishonest; but the thing I’m talking about is not just a matter of not being dishonest, it’s a matter of scientific integrity, which is another level. The fact that should be added to the advertising statement is that no oils soak through food, if operated at a certain temperature. In operated at another temperature, they all will – including Wesson oil. So its the implication which has been conveyed, not the fact, which is true, and the difference is what we have to deal with.
So I have just one wish for you – the good luck to be somewhere where you are free to maintain the kind of integrity I have described, and where you do not feel forced by a need to maintain your position in the organization, or financial support, or so on, to lose your integrity.
